My Weekend in Pictures, 7/4-7/6

So, this is a somewhat sad compilation of photos from my weekend, however, I thought I’d update everyone on my life because I can. 🙂

The sky was being patriotic.

I made bruschetta burgers for the Fourth of July and paired it with some blue corn chips and creamy spinach dip for a red, white, and blue themed dinner.  My burger recipe will be up sometime in the near future is up now, so go check it out!

I drank some of the only type of beer I like: Lambic.  Nom.

I then went on a lot of adventures with Gabi and Michael.

On Saturday, we went to the NC Farmer’s Market and I had some fried shrimp from the N.C. Seafood Restaurant for lunch.  I miss having seafood whenever I want it.

2014-07-06 18.35.02 After the farmers market, we went to the flea market, where I bought Gabi a treat from the Bone Appetit Bakery.  She loved it!  I also got myself some Chocolate Pecan fudge, but you better believe I devoured that!  Actually, I just lied.  I didn’t…I still have a quarter of the bar left, I just never took a photo of it.

We also went Geocaching!

Sunday, I spent the majority of my day in the kitchen.  I cut up my watermelon, tried my hand at making French macarons (which turned out very well!!), and made, um, I guess I’ll call it ‘watermelon water.’

I hope everyone had an awesome Independence Day weekend, and I hope you have an equally awesome work week this week.

Stay tuned for my bruschetta burger recipe and my successful macaron attempt and recipe later this week!

Lynda’s World Market Mini Haul

I’ll just start off by saying that I love going to World Market. Mainly for the food and beverage items they have, but I also like looking at all the random trinkets and kitchenware they sell too. On this particular trip, I bought 6 items, all from the food and beverage section. Here they are!

Kimmy Classic Seasoned Seaweed, 8-Pack, $1.99

2014-04-23 20.34.05

I love seaweed snacks! If you can tolerate the taste, I definitely recommend eating more of it. While seaweed contains vitamins A and C, a snack, such as the size of these packs I purchased, doesn’t really contain enough to have any real effect, however, seaweed contains a ton of iodine! Iodine is important in maintaining a healthy thyroid, and many other basic foods don’t contain it.

I let two people at one of my jobs try these, and they both thought these were gross, however, I love them, and I definitely think it’s an acquired taste. When I was in sixth grade, my best friend moved to Japan because her dad was stationed there, and she would send me Japanese care packages, which I loved getting! They always included a variety of Asian snack foods and candy, and these were one of the things I became addicted to and searched for near me (not this particular brand, just seaweed snacks in general).

Also, if you’re a calorie counter, these are only 15 calories per pack, and they are a good snack for appetite management.

Nyakers Ginger Snaps, Orange flavor, $1.99

2014-04-23 20.34.18

I have yet to try these, but they looked delicious, so I picked them up. They are made in Sweden, and I think they will go great with my hot tea.

 Meiji Chococones, $3.99

2014-04-23 20.34.292014-04-25 22.02.11

I get these, or something similar to these, just about every time I step into World Market. I love them! They are small cone-shaped cookies covered in a layer of milk chocolate, and then then in a layer of dark chocolate. What’s not to love?! Those same people that hated the seaweed really loved these, just so you know.

 Lindeman’s Peach Lambic Beer, $5.99

2014-04-23 20.35.23

Lindeman’s raspberry beer was the first beer I ever tried that I actually liked. I know, you can all hate on me for not liking beer, but I’m sorry, I just don’t like the taste of it. I know. I’m a weirdo. However, I have liked all of the Lambic beer’s I’ve tried (which isn’t many). I haven’t had this peach flavor yet, but I liked everything else by Lindeman’s so I thought I’d give it a try!

Koala’s March Chocolate Cookies, $1.29

2014-04-23 20.35.55

Can you sense my Asian theme? I just really like chocolate cookies made by Asian companies. These happen to be thin cookie puffs filled with chocolate. They are like cute little koala pillows filled with NOM!

Somersaults, Dutch Cocoa, $1.79

2014-04-25 22.02.582014-04-23 20.36.08

These were marked down, and since I had never tried them before, now was my chance. I’ve seen them before, and actually stumbled across a website that mentioned them, but I never actually purchased them because there was always something else next to them on the shelf that I wanted to try more.

They are actually really, really good! The first one is kinda blah, but the more you eat, the better they get. Just my opinion though. The main ingredient is sunflower seeds, and they are quite nutritious, so I don’t even feel bad about eating them right out of the bag!
