May Favorites

It’s so weird to me that it’s already June! I felt like May went by so quickly, but I’m excited for the summer weather to come. Here’s a quick run down of my favorites from May.

I found these heels on sale at Belk, and couldn’t pass them up since I needed an open-toed heel for the wedding I was attending. They were surprisingly comfortable to wear for hours and I can see myself wearing them with many other outfits moving into the summer season.

If you’ve seen my last post, you already know I love this dress. I’ve only had it for not even two weeks down and I’ve worn it 3 times. I know I’ll continue to love this easy dress for quite some time.

I really do love saltwater taffy, and Trader Joe’s is one of the only places I can find it at a reasonable price. All of their variety flavors are delicious and they always have it in stock.

This was my first visit to Philly and I really did enjoy it. The city is very walkable, and all of their shopping areas are so pretty. I would definitely recommend visiting if you get a chance, and I can’t wait to go back!

This bag was perfect for traveling. While I love my transport tote and I carry that around everywhere, this bag was the perfect carry on size, and it made me feel better that it zipped up. It was great to carry around to ensure the safety of all my things while I distracted myself with all the sights I was seeing.

I mentioned this sunscreen recently, but I really did love this stuff this past month. I used it a lot while I was traveling because I spent a lot of time outside walking around in the sun. It smells great, doesn’t leave you feeling sticky at all, and legitimately works, and you can’t go wrong with that.

Michael and I picked some of these up at the M&M’s store in Times Square, and I didn’t even realize they were back! I’ve always loved the crispy M&M’s and I’m excited that I can enjoy them again!

I mean, do I even have to say why this was a favorite of mine this past month? I’ll just leave it at that.

Me and my planner addiction really enjoyed the surprise set of stickers and extras from The Alex Studio. It’s such a cute idea to have wacky holidays for each day of the month (I love that stuff!), and now I have a reason to buy donuts this Friday.

  1. Midtown Nail Spa

This nail place in North Hills will definitely be a place I go back to in the future. Their staff was very friendly, and I went with Ashley and we both had an awesome time. The price was also comparable to many other nail salons in the area, but they really cared about keeping friends with friends (we’ve been to places that separate you…not ok!).

And now I’m going to get myself excited for all the things to come in June!

What I Ate Wednesday, 2/25

Well, it’s snowing outside. Again. And this time we are expecting 5-8 inches. Which is actually a lot for central North Carolina. I had the pleasure of driving in it tonight, but now that I’m home, safe and sound, I’ll tell you what I ate today instead of ranting about how I want it to be spring already.

I made a fast breakfast this morning. I had a plain bagel with butter and cinnamon sugar sprinkled on top, and a coffee with cream. Of course I was halfway finished with my bagel when I remembered to photograph it.

Man, I really do fail at eating lunch on days I start my workday at 1pm. For some reason, I neglect to think about eating until it’s time for me to get in the car and begin my commute. So lunch today was Chocolatey Cats Cookies dipped in Speculoo’s Cookie and Cocoa Swirl from Trader Joe’s and, wait for it…pretzels! So exciting right? Oh, and I also drank some H2O as well.

I actually had 2 of these. One of my co-workers made them and they were delicious. Chocolatey peanut butter graham crackery goodness!

I picked up Panera Bread for dinner. Tortellini Alfredo with slightly sweetened tea, and more water.  It looks kinda gross in this picture but that’s because I used my iPhone and took it in my office at work, which offers zero natural light.  I swear it’s good though!

When I got home from work, right before I wrote this post, I ate my dinner roll from Panera that came with my lunch.  And of course I had to share a small bite of it with Gabi. 🙂

Now it’s time to get in my pj’s, cuddle up with my fur baby and watch the snow out my window as I fall asleep.

What I Ate Wednesday, 8/6/14

Today was one of my days off this week, which rarely happens on the Wednesdays that I share what I ate with all of you wonderful people. While my plan was to wake up early to make the most of my day, I didn’t actually sleep too well last night, so I didn’t end up getting out of bed until almost 10am. Instead of having breakfast, I had brunch, because I wasn’t actually hungry when I first woke up.

To start off my day, a bit later than normal, I drank a glass of Slingshot iced coffee, black. If you read my July Favorites, you would see that it’s local, and we love local around here! I also had strawberries, walnuts, a Clementine, and an apple strudel from Annelore’s German Bakery, which I picked up from the Farmer’s Market this past Sunday. I warmed up my strudel for 15 seconds in the microwave. Perfection.

I made tuna salad and put it on honey wheat bread slightly toasted (it keeps it from getting soggy so fast), with fresh baby spinach leaves. My side was a handful of truffle flavored Pipcorn. My drink was Simply Lemonade with mango and I added one of my homemade berry ice cubes to it for some extra fruity flavor!

I went to my job for an event tonight and on our way back, Michael and I stopped by Panera Bread to pick up dinner. I got a half size of their Lemon Chicken Orzo soup as well as a half size of the Strawberry Poppyseed and Chicken Salad. It was the first time I had this particular salad and it was actually pretty good! The salad was made up of mandarin oranges, strawberries, pineapple, chicken, blueberries, and pecans and topped with a fat-free poppyseed dressing. I drank a bottle of water with my dinner.

After my run with Gabi (side note: I never run. This is the first time since I can remember.), I ate a grape, tangerine, and blood orange popsicle that I got a while back from Trader Joes.

What I Ate Wednesday, 5/7/14

Today is another example of what happens when I don’t plan out my meals ahead of time. The day consisted of quite a bit of eating and drinking in the car while on the way to work and while running errands. I really hate eating in the car, but sometimes it is necessary when you fail at planning and time management like the Ashley pants.


IMG_20140507_084538_456I started my morning off by talking to Lynda online while drinking a big cup of Trader Joe’sIMG_20140507_095335_056 (1) breakfast blend coffee with organic half and half.

My breakfast wasn’t anything special. It was one fried egg with a little salt and pepper, a slice of whole wheat toast with peanut butter and cinnamon on top, and an organic granny smith apple. I also drank water out of my boyfriend’s Redskins Tervis tumbler that I commandeered because he never uses it. 😛


As usual I took my sweet time getting ready this morning and didn’t allow enough time to prepare lunch for myself before leaving for work around 12:30. I didn’t want to be late for work, but I knew I would not last all day with no food. So what did I do? Well, I swung by Bojangles of course. ughh shame shame! What a terrible “nutritionist” I am (and I use that word very lightly). The struggle is real. Isn’t that what the kids are saying these days??

IMG_20140507_124758_506I got the kids chicken supreme meal with rice. I ate it on the way to work because I am not about to broadcast my poor food choices to everyone in the wellness center I work at. Even though I’m broadcasting it on here…shhh! Oh well, just keeping it real.


I was craving a smoothie several hours later, so I decided I would find a smoothie from somewhere while running an errand for work. I went to Panera Bread remembering that I had seen smoothies on their menu before. They had two choices: strawberry or mango. I chose strawberry. It was pretty good! One complaint though…why are their straws so fat? I got instant brain freeze! Again this was consumed in the car :-/


Well, I had planned to cook some sort of Mexican food like tacos or taco salad, but then I didn’t get out of work until almost 8pm. All motivation for cooking was lost! So I settled for the next best thing, Chipotle.

I eat Chipotle at least once a week now because I work nearby one, so it is hard to resist. I also drank more water with my dinner. I didn’t mention this, but I drink water constantly all day long while at work, but I never take pictures of that, because that’s kind of silly. “Here’s my water at 11 and then again at 11:30. And here’s me holding my water at 12” 😛

Now I am sitting here cuddling with Rose about to watch an old episode of Doctor Who before bed. I hope you guys are having a great week! Thanks for reading!

What I Ate Wednesday, 4/23/14

Hey guys! I’m back again for my WIAW. Today turned out to be a pretty good day. It got off to sort of a rough start when I lost power randomly at my house before work. Luckily I had already made my coffee and breakfast, but unluckily I had just gotten out of the shower and was not able to dry/style my hair for work. I can’t complain though because the rest of the day went pretty smoothly, although my poor doggy is still not feeling well. 😦 It was a pretty busy day for me, but I managed to capture most of what I ate today.


IMG_20140423_075423_669I didn’t have oatmeal today! Crazy, I know. I just fried up an egg and toasted a slice of honey wheat bread with a little butter and some a lot of grape jelly. I also had some of my Trader Joe’s breakfast blend coffee with some organic half and half. I also drank some water on the way to work.


IMG_20140423_165227_228This sad picture of my lunch in the trash is all I have to document what I ate because I was very hungry and never even thought about taking a picture until after the food was gone and in my belly already. I was at a health fair with a coworker for most of the morning so I didn’t eat lunch until around 2:30. Since you obviously can’t tell from this picture, I had a Cobb salad from Chic Fil A. I also drank more water.


DSCN0701I got home from work around 7:30 and ate some of my Trader Joe’s kettle corn to hold me over until dinner was ready. Isn’t this a cute paper towel with the girl walking a dog. It looks kind of like a schnauzer. 🙂


My dinner was extremely spur of the moment. On my way home from work I was trying to think of something to cook and I remembered that I had an unopened jar  of Teriyaki sauce in the pantry. I parked in the grocery store parking lot and looked up a chicken teriyaki stir fry recipe on my phone. I’m not comfortable just winging it with cooking. I wish I was, but I just feel like I have to have a recipe. I am trying to get more confident in the kitchen, but so far the progress has been pretty slow for that. I bought the ingredients I needed and headed home to cook.

I thought this turned out pretty good. It took me maybe a total of 25- 30 minutes from start to finish, so it was fairly quick to make.  If you are interested in following the recipe I used it can be found here. I served this over white rice because I didn’t have anything else, but you could definitely use noodles or another type of rice instead.


DSCN0724Okay, so I’m sorry if these don’t look that appetizing. I have to admit, they do kind of look like poop, but I promise they don’t taste like poop. Well, I’ve never tasted poop, so I can’t say that for sure, but yeahhh. 😛 Anyway, that’s all I ate today. Now I am going to go to bed! I’m a sleepy pants. Hope you guys are having a great week. Ashley’s Trader Joe’s Haul

Well, is what I like to call “terrible Tuesday”. If anything bad is going to happen during the week it tends to happen for me on Tuesdays for whatever reason. This has also been true for others I know, but you guys will have to tell me if that is “a thing” in your life too or if I am just a crazy lady (which is more than likely the case). Anyway, everything was going alright and then, BAM!…terrible Tuesday struck again. Granted, I have had wayyy worse terrible Tuesdays in the past, but it was still not a great day at all. Long story short (because you guys came here for a Trader Joe’s haul and not a whiny pants rant), Rose got sick while I was at work. By sick I mean vomiting and diarrhea…all over the carpet and of course nothing on the other half of the house that is hard wood. Luckily, she was home with Blake, my boyfriend’s cousin, and he let me know what was going on. So, obviously I had to rush home to make sure she was alright. The story gets worse, but I’ll just end it there. There’s been no poop or vomit in the last hour or so, so hopefully she’s alright or else we will be making our second vet trip in the last week. Long story. Is this what it’s like to have kids? ahhhh! Anyway, let’s move on to the point of this post, shall we?


So, I went to Trader Joe’s yesterday and I bought some delicious food items, as well as these beautiful spring flowers. I may or may not have bought these flowers just to add some beauty to my pictures, which tend to be crappy because I have zero photography skills. Look at me, thinking ahead! Anyway, I love Trader joe’s! Who doesn’t love Trader Joe’s?? I don’t shop there regularly because there is not one very nearby where I live, but when I do go I love trying out new things.

Organic Virgin Coconut Oil

IMG_20140421_164031_557I am so late jumping on the coconut oil bandwagon, it is not even funny. I have been meaning to pick some up for a while and never did until yesterday. The health claims in favor of coconut oil are numerous. It is touted as being wonderful for hair, skin, and overall health. Coconut oil has strong anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties due to the lauric acid in it. Because of this property, supposedly “oil pulling” using coconut oil is a good substitute for regular mouthwash. I was curious about that and also just wanted to use it for cooking, so I got myself some. I’ll let you know how I like it!

Kettle Corn

IMG_20140421_164747_140I think this is one of my favorite things I bought. I don’t have much to say about this kettle corn other than that it is perfectly delicious. It is the perfect blend of sweet and salty. A perfect snack in my opinion and maybe a little “healthier” than the scary microwave popcorn.

Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Cinnamon Almonds


I love almonds and I love cinnamon, so this was a no-brainer. I also read another blogger say that they liked these, so I was sold. YUM!

Hearty Minestrone Soup

IMG_20140421_164617_098This was an impulse buy because I was getting hungry while shopping and I thought to myself, “self, you can eat this when you get home and it will be quick and easy and delicious”. Turns out it was some of those things. I also failed to read the nutrition facts while in the store, and only when I got home did I realize the enormous amount of sodium in this. I know it’s soup and that’s sort of typical, but still. To make matters worse, it wasn’t all that delicious. I mean, I will eat the other half of it, but I won’t buy it again.

Dark Chocolate Almonds (Sea Salt and Turbinado Sugar)

IMG_20140421_164604_802I put these in my basket before I found the cinnamon ones and I didn’t have the heart (or the willpower) to put them back. Chocolate covered anything is good from Trader Joe’s I think!

Balsamic Vinaigrette

IMG_20140421_164315_722I don’t know why I bought this?? I was just thinking the other day how I want to make my own salad dressings and then I go and buy this. The aisle this was on was very crowded and I was standing in front of the dressings and I guess I got overwhelmed by the Trader Joe’s regulars glaring at me wishing I would move out of the way of their usual dressing that they buy all the time because they are there everyday and they can sense that I am not a regular. (run-on sentence record?) They can tell from my indecisiveness, the overwhelmed look in my eyes…they want me to leave and go to Harris Teeter. I can tell. So, I grabbed this balsamic Vinaigrette like I knew what I was after all along. That’ll teach them! 😛

Organic Fair Trade Breakfast Blend Coffee

IMG_20140421_164144_477I tried this for the first time this morning and it was really good. Plus, it’s fair trade and organic so it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Every coffee I’ve ever tried from Trader Joe’s has been great, just FYI.

Organic Kale

I guess this was the least exciting thing I bought because I forgot to get an up close picture of it. Oh well. I got some kale…it was green and delicious and in a bag.

Lynda bought these a while back and I wanted to try them. I liked them. I wouldn’t say I loved them, but I’m glad I tried some fake macarons finally so I can join the cool club.

Lynda’s Trader Joes Mini Haul

I’m mainly doing this because I want to talk about all the awesome things I got at Trader Joe’s when I went the other day out of sheer boredom.  Yes, I grocery shop sometimes when I’m bored.  And no, these are not the healthiest things I could have purchased, but that’s ok because there are many, many more unhealthy things out there.  But they are awesome, and delicious, so I decided to share with you!

Can we say nom?  Yes we can.  I pretty much like white cheddar anything, and I grab these any time I go into Trader Joe’s.

Speculoo’s Cookie and Cocoa Swirl

Um, why am I only just now discovering this ish?!  It is my new favorite thing.  And I’m now going to come up with so many random recipes to use this with because I want to eat it all day, everyday.  You just wait and see!

 Trader Joe’s Organic Half & Half

Ok, this is the most boring thing on the list.  Mainly because it’s just a regular “I have to buy this because I’m at the grocery store” item.  But while it’s here, I’d just like to point out that organic half and half, as well as organic milk, actually lasts a lot longer than the regular stuff.  I used to always end up throwing some of it away, until I started buying the organic kind.

These are great as a quick lunch or dinner!  Or just as an appetizer if you’re serving a lot of people.  And they are under $4.00 for a bag.  I made them yesterday for lunch, and my boyfriend, roommate, and I all ate some, and still had a few left (we had fried rice as well though).  I personally think they are just as good as the ones I can get from the Asian market in my area.

 Dark Chocolate Roasted Pistachio Toffee

I love me some toffee!  And honestly, my reason for heading to Trader Joe’s out of boredom was to pick up their Milk Chocolate English Toffee, however, apparently all of Raleigh decided they were going there for that sole reason as well…so when I got there, they were sold out of them!  Not cool bro.  But that was ok, because I got to try these instead, and boy were they delicious!  My box is gone already, and now I want to go back and get lots more!

12 Macarons a la parisienne

I have this new-found obsession with macarons, and trying to hunt down some delicious ones in my area, but when I was in Trader Joe’s I saw these in the frozen section, so I decided to try them.  They are also delicious as well, and if I can’t find a good spot to get fresh ones, I’ll definitely be picking these up again!  I will say, however, that you have to know 30 minutes before your macaron craving begins, so you can let them thaw.
